# Campaigns

> Set up campaigns that mail letters, send you spreadsheets, or sync audiences to Meta — and find the results in Reports.

A campaign does the same job for you on a regular schedule. Each time it runs, it picks up the new prospects in the counties it covers, keeps only the ones that match your filter, and then does one thing with them:

* **Letter** or **Postcard** — produces mail ready to print and send, using your template.
* **Excel export** — emails you a spreadsheet of the new prospects.
* **Custom audience** — adds the new prospects to an audience in your Meta (Facebook/Instagram) ad account, so you can show them your ads. This type appears once it's turned on for your account. See [Meta audiences](/help/meta-audiences).

All your campaigns live in one place: **Marketing → Campaigns**.

## Before you start

Set these up first so they're ready to pick in the campaign steps:

* **A template** (for letters and postcards). Go to **Marketing → Templates**, open the **Letter** or **Postcard** tab, and click **Upload letter template** or **Upload postcard template**. Templates are Word (.docx or .doc) or PDF files. Put prospect details in with merge fields in double braces, such as `{{person_first_name}}`. The **Tutorial** tab walks through it.
* **A filter** (optional). Go to **Marketing → Filters** and click **Create your first filter** (or the create button if you already have some). Add conditions, name the filter, and save. **Prospect Count Preview** shows roughly how many prospects match before you save. With no filter, a campaign uses all new prospects.
* **A Meta connection** (for custom audiences only). See [Meta audiences](/help/meta-audiences).

## Create a campaign

1. Go to **Marketing → Campaigns** and click **New campaign**.
2. **Jurisdictions** — choose where the campaign runs:
   * **All active counties** — every county you subscribe to. Counties you add later join on their own, and counties that end drop out on their own.
   * **Some counties** — tick the counties you want.
   * **One county** — pick a single county.
3. **Type** — choose **Letter**, **Postcard**, **Excel export**, or **Custom audience**. You can't change the type later.
4. **Filter** — pick a saved filter, or **All prospects (no filter)**.
5. **Template** (letters and postcards) — pick your template. For letters you can also add address labels.
6. **Fulfillment** (letters and postcards) — answer **Who mails these letters?** (or **postcards?**):
   * **You fulfill (default)** — we produce the print-ready files; your staff or your own print shop prints and mails them.
   * **LetterFriend** (letters) — your own LetterFriend account prints and mails them.
   * **Outbound Legal Fulfillment** (postcards, early access) — we print and mail them from your prepaid balance.
See [Mailing options](/help/mailing-options) for what each one costs and what to set up first.
You can also set a **Return address** for this campaign, or use your default.
7. **Output** — choose how the files are put together. Options include **Deduplicate addresses** (skips prospects who share an address with another prospect in the same run) and, for letters, **Insert police reports** and **Double-sided printing**. This step is also where you pick the campaign's **Campaign managers** — the people who get an email each time it runs.
8. **Schedule** — by default the campaign runs on your account schedule. To give this campaign its own times, turn on **Use a custom schedule for this campaign instead of the account schedule**.
9. **Review** — check the summary and give the campaign a name. The name appears in run emails, on letter cover pages, and in Reports. Then click **Save & activate** to turn it on, or **Save as inactive** to turn it on later.

## When campaigns run

All campaigns follow your **account schedule** unless you give one a custom schedule.

To change the account schedule:

1. Go to **Marketing → Campaign Scheduler**.
2. Under **Account schedule**, click **Edit account schedule**.
3. Set the days and times, then click **Save account schedule**.

The same page lists **Per-campaign schedules**, where you can give individual campaigns their own times.

If you edit a campaign, save your changes before its next run. A run that has already started uses the settings from when it started.

## Who gets the run emails

Letter, postcard, and spreadsheet campaigns send an email each time they run. Custom audience campaigns don't send an email.

* On **Marketing → Campaigns**, the **Campaign managers** box at the top holds your default list. Enter email addresses separated by commas and click **Save**.
* A campaign with no managers of its own emails everyone on that default list, plus you.
* A campaign that has its own managers emails only those people, plus you.

## Spreadsheets across several counties

When a spreadsheet campaign covers more than one county, you choose how it arrives under **Spreadsheet delivery** on **Marketing → Campaigns**:

* **One combined spreadsheet** — all counties in one sheet, with the County column first.
* **One spreadsheet per county** — separate files in the same email.
* **One tab per county** — one workbook with a tab for each county.

Each option is still one email per run.

## Turn a campaign off, back on, or delete it

On **Marketing → Campaigns**, each campaign row has buttons to:

* **Archive** — turns the campaign off. It moves to the **Archived** list and stops running.
* **Restore** — turns an archived (or inactive) campaign back on.
* **Delete** — removes the campaign.

Use the **Show** menu to see all campaigns, only campaigns that cover all your counties, or campaigns for one county. Click a campaign's details button to see its full setup and schedule, or its edit button to change it.

## Reports: what each run sent

Go to **Marketing → Reports**.

* Pick a **County** (or all counties) and a **Period** (last 7, 30, or 90 days).
* The top shows **Prospects delivered** and **Mail pieces sent** for that period.
* **Active Campaigns** lists what's running.
* **Execution Logs** lists every run: the date, county, campaign type, how many prospects it included, and its files. Click **Letters** or **Labels** to download a run's print files, or open a run to see its details.

Past runs stay in Reports, so you can go back and download files again.
